Bruce Springsteen, Nerds Gummy Clusters, and The Bell House
Three of my absolute favorite things.
Hey all!
Happy Saturday! It’s been a while, and I apologize for that. A lot’s been going on. I lost a decent but not significant chunk of change betting on a Kamala Harris election victory. I’m also getting over a cold. Anyways, here is stuff.
What I’ve Been Listening To
Two things this week.
First is “Because The Night” by Bruce Springsteen. I’ve been on a HUGE Bruce kick. I chalk it up to the Jersey in me. This song was popularized by Patti Smith, but I do think it fits his voice equally as nicely. I wish I saw Bruce Springsteen live like ten years ago before his voice became so hoarse. C’est la vie.
Second is “That’s So True” by Gracie Abrams. By all accounts I should dislike her and her music. She’s a nepo baby. But for some reason I give her a huge pass. It’s not even that I think her music is anything special, it just scratches an itch in my brain that I really seem to enjoy. Also whoever is managing her is doing a great job b/c I see and hear her stuff all over Tik Tok in various meme formats all of the time.
What I’ve Been Watching
This interesting Tik Tok about why Nerds Gummy Clusters (GOATed candy) are such a financial success. I enjoy these candies a lot and like to think I was an early adapter to their success.
Comedy Updates/Upcoming Shows
I have some very fun shows coming up.
First, I am doing Next Slide Please as part of the New York Comedy Festival, which is a Powerpoint comedy show hosted by my friend Reed Kavner. I’ve done it many times before and have gotten many viral clips out of it, plus one woman who dm-ed me to ask if I was single.
Second, I am opening for my friend Kyle Gordon at The Bell House on 11/15 as part of the New York Comedy Festival. You may know Kyle as the writer, creator, and star of Planet of the Bass. I am super excited for this one because 15 minutes of Bell House stage time is very valuable to me.
Third, I am hosting a stand-up show at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade on 11/15, as part of the New York Comedy Festival.
Four, my show, Hot Gossip, returns to Union Hall on Friday November 29th and 7:30pm. Lineup to come. Seems like we’re pretty regular there.
These venues all rock! I’m very grateful to be doing these shows. I’m really on the hunt for stage time at the moment and am hoping to build this into some momentum.
I am working on booking headlining dates for 2025. So far I have Philadelphia, Bethlehem, PA, and I was reached out to by some students at George Washington University to see if I’d headline their comedy festival, which was massively flattering. If you know of any places I should try to hit, let me know.
That’s it for me!
I hope you enjoyed this week’s stuff. I’ll be back again soon with more stuff.
Love,
JVH
