Hey all,
Happy Tuesday! Hope you’re about to have a great Thanksgiving. After years of battling, my brother and I have successfully lobbied my mom against making a turkey for the holiday, so we’ll instead be having tasty steak. Anyways, here’s what’s up.
What I’ve Been Listening To
I’ve been listening to so much stuff.
First is “Silver Springs” by Fleetwood Mac. I saw Stereophonic on Broadway last week (a play that’s essentially a dramatization of the making of the Fleetwood Mac album Rumors, so much so that they’re getting sued over it.) I don’t know if “Silver Springs” is my favorite Fleetwood Mac song, but it’s definitely a strong contender. “You'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you” is my favorite lyric.
Second is “Harder Better Faster Stronger” by Daft Punk. Remember that video like fifteen years ago of someone who wrote all of the lyrics on his fingers/hands and then kind of hand dances along while the song plays? I wanted to make a parody of that, but where they lyrics are all like shithole/butthole, etc. I couldn’t figure out how to effectively mimic Daft Punk’s voice though, so I’ll have to stow that premise away until I have the backing of an institution who can help me bring such a vision to life.
What I’ve Been Watching
I watched the movie Spotlight on streaming last week. It’s a perfect film. I use this analogy a lot, but you know how in Olympic gymnastics you get a score for how difficult your routine is AND a score for how well you executed it? Spotlight is essentially a low-ambition movie that’s flawlessly executed. I mean, just watch this scene and tell me you’re not about it.
Comedy Updates/Upcoming Shows
Lots of good stuff has been happening and will continue to happen.
My show, Hot Gossip, returns to Union Hall on Friday November 29th and 7:30pm. This one features Cat Cohen, Jamie Wolf, Daniel Simonsen, Carson Olshansky, Dina Hashem, and Chandler Dean. These are literally all fantastic comedians and I’m happy to have all of them.
I opened for Tina Friml last Friday night in Middlebury, Vermont. Tina is a killer. My set went merely okay. It was a weirdly old crowd. You learn more from the failures than you do the successes. The check cashes the same regardless.
Seth Meyers followed me on Instagram. He saw my Karl Rove/Fox News bit and liked it. He only follows 157 people! I’d love to parlay that into doing stand up on his show, but I don’t know how to make that happen.
I am booking more and more headlining dates for 2025. I want to do over 100 total shows in 2025 if possible. This year it looks like I’m gonna hit about 60. There will be a full debrief about all of the data I collected at the end of the year.
After the success of my Piss Taste Test video I’m working on some sketches for online. Get ready to see in your feed soon “GRWM to watch an episode of Family Guy” and “What I Wore To Court After Learning The Judge Loves Austin Powers”. Unrelated but i now own many costumes.
Fourth, keep your fingers crossed for me about something that my manager is working on for me.
That’s it for me!
I hope you enjoyed this week’s stuff. I’ll be back again soon with more stuff.
Love,
JVH
