#10 Merry Christmas Harry, Merry Christmas Ron
Holiday updates and a few other tidbits
Hey Friends,
JVH here. First off, Merry Christmas. I really enjoy the holiday season; mainly because I’m a huge fan of gifts (particularly the ones with high monetary value).
So here’s the rub - once the year formally ends in next week, I’m going to do a big write up on the JVH Tracker. The JVH Tracker is a spreadsheet that used all year to collect data about my comedy, running, spending habits, and more. I can’t wait to analyze the data and share it with you all - it’s going to be a can’t miss post.
This post on the other hand? You can miss. Though I suspect you won’t since you’re already this far. So let’s just jump right into it, shall we?
What I’ve Been Listening To
First is “One More Weekend” by Maude Latour. I couldn’t post my Spotify Wrapped publicly this year because my number one song was by Kanye West featuring Marylyn Manson and Da Baby, but I did repost my 2021 for fun, in which the number one song was this little tune. It’s a great, Lorde-esque bop. Also the woman who sings it has a Dutch dad (much like myself) so I feel a bit of a kinship with her.
Second song is “Christmas Canon” by Transyberian Orchestra. I generally enjoy Christmas music. I like this song because it’s pretty weird. Children singing, a melody associated with weddings - it shouldn’t work, but it does. I was in chamber choir in high school, so I actually have a lot of love for many, many Christmas carols. We’d also play this Christmas medley every year in band, which is worth a listen as well.
What I’ve Been Watching
I saw A Real Pain in theaters. I also saw Wicked, twice. I really want to see Juror #2. I am also circling a Mad Men rewatch - it’s been percolating as a discussion topic on Twitter and I really wanna just dive in a watch 70 hours of prestige television.
Comedy Updates/Upcoming Shows
Honestly, things are pretty good right now.
Hot Gossip went off without a hitch at Union Hall last month. Despite it being a holiday weekend, the show sold ~80 tickets, and a great time was had by both the audience and the performers (what more could you want?). I haven’t been able to parlay this into a consistent slot at the venue, but I think that’s just the way it goes over there. The next one will be Saturday, January 4th at 10pm.
I’ve been writing and filming a bunch of sketches, that I intend to release over the next few weeks, and then in perpetuity. The first one is called Get Ready With Me To Watch Family Guy. Thus far it’s done well on Tiktok. I am motivated by a few things. One, I enjoy writing and making comedy. Two, I feel like I need to be putting out material to steady increase my following, and I don’t necessarily want to burn all of my stand-up by posting it. Three, it’s actually easier to make these sketch-type videos than it is to film a good stand-up set.
I was followed on Instagram by the one, the only Jon Cryer. He followed me off of my Karl Rove/Fox News bit.
I’m setting my comedy goals for 2025. I want to try to do 100 shows, which is about 8.3 per month. So far I have 9 shows booked for January - let the good times roll!
